Aura Botanika

I'm Laura, the creator of Aura Botanika. Its history has its origin in the south of France. I learned the technique of the cianotipia during the season most sunny of the year in my city home in July 2021. I discovered the foundations of the cianotipia, mixing chemicals, and playing with the sun. It was also a discovery botanical, because it would not pay so much attention to my surroundings this time. The plant is revealed in a new form, and had a poem that I had never experienced before.

From the first cianotipias revealed, a wave of emotions came over me and thousands of ideas I had in mind. I thought: this art has so many possibilities of creation as varieties of plants and flowers, is endless!. I continued for years experimenting and improving my technique, but without showing my creations to the public. Until I arrived in Medellín, Colombia, with its abundance of green for all sides, and a radiant sun. Aura Botanika was born in May 2024 with the idea of paying homage to all the plants and flowers we surround. My travel nourish my creations and feature new stories.

Every leaf, every petal is transformed into a unique fingerprint, in a photograph of the living nature, and the sun becomes the brush. It is an invitation to look at the world differently, to immortalize the ephemeral, and to honor what the earth gives us.

INSPIRATION

It all starts with observation. I walk quite a bit to find the next plants that I'm going to capture, imagining the silhouettes botanical created with the sun.

COMPOSITION

I expose my work to the light of the sun after preparing the paper with a solution of photosensitive. The composition conveys the emotions that inspire me the plants chosen.

REVELATION

After the exposure to the sun, cianotipia, and its beauty is revealed. Every detail mark the work with a lot of poetry.

The cianotipia

The cianotipia, also known as a "blueprint", is in reality one of the techniques of photography oldest. It was invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel, a scientist and astronomer English. Herschel was looking for a way to copy documents using only the light of the sun and began to experiment with various substances photosensitive. And so was born the cianotipia! But the story of the cianotipia is not complete without mention of Anna Atkins, a botany british and pioneer in photography. Anna used this technique to document plants and marine algae, and in 1843 published a book entitled Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions.
